BIO

Toño was born in Mexico City in 1980. He graduated from Universidad Intercontinental (UIC) with a bachelor's degree in Social Communication. He obtained a diploma in Television and Cinema from IDEP in Barcelona. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as a co-editor at the popular Mexican sports newspaper Record. In 2007, he was admitted to Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC), the prestigious Film School of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he learned the art of filmmaking and had the opportunity to collaborate with film experts such as Mario Luna, Jaime Aparicio, Alfredo Joskowicz, and Jorge Ayala Blanco. He began his career as an assistant director in 2008.

After working with various Mexican and foreign filmmakers in commercial production companies such as Postal, Catedral Films, The Maestros, and Lemon Films, he settled at Central Films in 2009. There, he served as an assistant director and screenwriter for one of the most acclaimed directors in Latin America, working on projects that won six Cannes Festival awards for four consecutive years, filming in locations like Madrid, Cuba, Barcelona, Los Angeles, and Miami. As a director, Toño has expanded his filmmaking focus to projects unrelated to advertising.

In 2014, he founded Tormenta Films, a multidisciplinary production company focused on content development for visual media and new digital platforms. In 2016, he began filming the documentary "Sal Sánchez: El Guerrero Azteca" and is currently developing his first feature film, a biopic of Hall of Fame Mexican boxer Salvador Sánchez. In 2021, Tormenta joined MANIFIESTO and HUESCA, a collective created to develop original content within an innovative commercial structure. Toño Maya is exclusively represented in the United States by Carbo Films.

He has studied screenwriting and graduated from the "ABC of Showrunner" Diploma program at CENTRO.

In 2023, Toño celebrates six years as a director. When it comes to being on set and executing a project, he involves himself in all processes, leveraging the qualities of each team member. And when it comes to paying attention to detail, he's the one you can rely on.
